As I have stated in various other posts I am now only focusing on 4 baseball players for my collection (Kershaw, Koufax, Corey Seager and Mike Trout) BUT there is one big exception to that general rule. I have decided to venture into and picking up vintage cards of Dodger players from years past. For my collection I deem vintage as any card that is at least 50 years old which would mean 1966 or older. The only other requirement is that the card has to come in graded form as a lot of these would and could be in fragile condition so I don't want to store them in anything than nice hard and rigid cases like these BGS/BVG cards come in. With that this is my first of hopefully many.
Eventually I want/will get my hands on some bigger names aka Koufax, Drysdale, Pee Wee, et al but I wanted to scratch my vintage itch so I focused on a smaller target and this 1955 beauty was what caught my eye. Obviously the big name in the 1955 set is the Koufax rookie card and someday I will own a copy but today I picked up Jim Gilliam in 4.5 graded form.
I didn't really know what to expect cost wise but winning it for a mere $5 and some change was not my expectation but it was welcome result. It took 6 separate bids to get to that end total but all that mattered was mine which was the top one and with that I have my first graded vintage card.
