Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Corey Seager Base BGS Graded Gem Mint 9.5

As I am winding down and really focusing on just a few projects it is easier to just go after the couple cards I want than everything I feel I need. This one though falls into both categories.

I have a couple rainbow projects of Seager I am still trying to complete and this mini is 1 of them but also 1 of the hardest ones to complete since they do not come up for "sale" that often. This base I have only seen in graded form I believe once before and I wasn't able to land it. This time though I had a feeling it wouldn't cost that much and considering I am tightening my belt on card purchases I am glad I was right. End of the day this barely got into the double digits but thankfully I was able to win it and add it to the project. Still many more to go but happy to add another piece.

2013 Bowman Chrome Mini Blue Refractor Parallel (7/99)

I still think I am crazy in doing not 1, not 2 but 3 rainbow projects for Corey Seager but if I ever do accomplish it I would be so proud in doing it as it is an insane project. 

Well this is the mini blue and other than it being slightly off centered I believe there are no other problems as I saw nothing under the loop. I think it gems and if so I am dreaming of a tri gold rainbow.

The 9.5 returns of the batch are finished BUT I am not done with the recaps as I didn't just receive 1 but got 2 pristine 10's back from BGS. Sadly once again neither were a black label. Someday I will earn one but not this time.

Since it's not a black label that means only one of the categories did not receive a 10 from Beckett and for this card it happened to be surface. I cleaned this off before submitting but obviously not enough as it came back as a measly 9.5. Picky much Beckett? Ha Ha. Either way it's nice to add yet another overall 10 to the collection.

One of the few cards in the batch that I think has a legit chance at coming back as a pristine 10 as everything checks out except for centering which is maybe 51,52/49,48 as it is almost perfectly centered. There are no corner issues, nor edge problems and surface is clean. Can it earn a 10? Sure but if it doesn't I see no way it doesn't earn at minimum a strong 9.5

While centering did not get a 10 as I thought it would this card did come back as a strong 9.5 as expected. There were 3 9.5's and a 10 when all was said and done and with it another fine addition to my THIRD (My God) Bowman Chrome rainbow project for Corey Seager. I barely got one done with upgrades still needed for it and I am taking on 2 more? What am I thinking? Ha ha. Fun stuff.

Another Corey mini in the batch and another expectant gem mint 9.5 as well.

I have always had issues on measuring centering on a computer screen when it comes to X-Fractors and this one was no different but it looked good enough to take a chance on it. Once it came in and I placed it under a loop it looks to only be slightly off centered but not enough to hinder the overall grade. Of course that is my opinion so lets hope Beckett shares the same view.

Another solid return from the batch as with it's earned 9.5 sub grade on centering it wasn't off centered like I thought it was. Not only did centering receive that high mark but all the other 3 areas earned that as well as this is yet another quad 9.5 gem mint in the batch. I have been luckier with these minis from the 2013 Bowman Chrome brand than I have with the regular sized versions as every mini has at least earned a 9.5 while I still am trying to upgrade a couple of the regular sized brothers.

Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Corey Seager Base Green Refractor Parallel (73/75)

With Corey doing so well this year it is getting increasingly harder to land his cards at any type of deal but I continue to plug away and ended up with this 2013 mini that helps me along with my 3rd rainbow project of Mr. Seager.

While the "normal" sized cards get the most attention these colored minis are hard to track down. I've been lucky to get a few but the prices have been rising as his play has improved. As with all the rainbow cards I want/need them to be in gem mint form or a raw looks like they can earn that grade. Saw this one on eBay and considering what previous greens have sold for I was pleasantly surprised that I landed this at about $8 cheaper than I thought I would. The seller had the same feeling as he contacted me after the auction and stated what a great deal I received. He also believes that this should earn a 10 from Beckett. Now that is a mighty confident statement to throw around but once in hand I can see where he was coming from. I don't see anything wrong with this well centered card but I never expect a 10 but if this does not receive a 9.5 then I know the grader must have had a bad day.

Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Corey Seager Base X-Fractor Parallel (99/100)

I didn't expect to pick up another "color" for my Bowman Chrome mini rainbow of Corey this fast but when this X-Fractor popped up shortly after I nabbed the blue one I knew I had to turn my focus on this as I don't see them very often.

I don't know about any of you but I have always had a problem checking centering on these X-Fractor parallels on a computer screen. My eyes seem to play tricks on me and I am not certain if the card is centered or not. Well I took a risk on this particular one as the price was in the single digits and with that low of a cost I was willing to take the gamble. Once in hand it seems to be in pretty good condition and I hope to add another gem mint to my collection.

For a long time I only had the black mini parallel but in less than a week I picked up the blue and the x-fractor and have my eyes on a green. Not too shabby considering I hadn't seen any of the colors for such a long period.

Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Corey Seager Base Blue Refractor Parallel (7/99)

For constant followers/readers of this blog (thank you again for taking the time to indulge in my rantings) you all know I have/am doing rainbow projects for Corey Seager from the 2013 Bowman Chrome sets. The base set is now complete and just trying to upgrade certain cards and the draft version is still a work in progress but I believe I am half way done. The 3rd one though is one that does not get much play here as it is not a high priority and the cards don't come up for sale that often. The set in question is the 2013 Bowman Chrome minis. Not to be confused with a mini insert set that was included in packs of Bowman Chrome but the ones that could only be had in factory sets which is why they are hard to come by as not all sets have been opened.

The base set can be had pretty easily as those that have been opened are usually resold but it is the colored parallels that I am after and the ones that command a higher price. I scored a massive deal on the black mini a couple years ago as the seller didn't specify Seager in his lot sale and I turned that into a gem mint beauty from BGS. When I picked that black one up I decided I wanted to do the rainbow for the minis as well. With that said this is just my 2nd color for the rainbow as either most are on BIN auctions with obscene high asking prices or I never see them up for sale so when this blue one popped up with a starting price of just a penny I knew I would be going after it.

Surprisingly even with the acquisition of the card during one of Corey's hot streaks on the field it was had for the a very low price of just $2.75. Another steal in my eyes and once in hand I think this has a very good chance at a solid gem mint return from BGS.

BGS Submission Update Twelve - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Hyun-Jin Ryu Base Blue Refractor Parallel (96/99) Now Graded and Slabbed a Gem Mint 9.5

Beckett Book Value : $10

The only reason I added this to the batch for grading is because I thought I had an outside chance at a Pristine 10 grade on it.

I already have Ryu in gem mint form on another card and though I collect his cards I don't need more than what I already have in graded form but when I pulled it out of the box and looked it over I thought it looked to be in the best shape of all the cards I was going to submit. I was almost 100% sure that it would come back gem mint (which it did) but held out hope on earning my second Pristine grade. That will have to wait as it "only" earned a gem mint grade.

All the sub grades earned at least a 9.5 with one earning a 10 so it is a solid gem mint grade but I would have needed 2 of the other grades to earn a 10 to get my Pristine grade. No biggie. I tried and didn't get what I wanted but I still received a gem mint in return. Can't complain about that.

Deja Vu.

I picked up the Ryu X-Fractor and was still on the look out for the other Dodgers within the set and found Seager's up for sale on the bay. Won this for half of what I paid for Ryu in which I already thought that was a bargain so that makes this even a better purchase.

The funny thing is that like the Ryu card Seager's here is also numbered 28 out of 100. I wasn't looking to match them up like that as it doesn't add anymore value to either card but I found it kind of neat. Now if I can find Puig's then that would be cool.

Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Hyun-Jin Ryu X-Fractor Parallel ( 28 / 100 )

I like minis
and finally I am starting to come around and "like" the x-fractor parallels.

I have never a big fan of these parallels but the more and more that I acquire them (set completest mentality) I am enjoying them in my collection a little. They will never be the priority as blue and black will always hold that title but if I can get these at a reasonable price then I will try to get my hands on them.

This happens to be another purchase that was done from the hip as at the time there was no price guide to go by but I knew I had to have it one way or another. Found a cheap BIN on eBay and scooped it up for a reasonable price.

Card of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Hyun-Jin Ryu Base Blue Refractor Parallel ( 96 / 99 )

Nothing like a blue Dodger card.

With the Bowman Chrome Mini set out in more and more people's hands now there are more and more cards up for sale on the bay which means the prices are coming down finally. I already have the black Seager which is my crown jewel from this set due to the fact that I think it is safe to assume that the black Puig will never make it into my hands.

With that said I can and always will go for these blue beauties and Ryu here is the first to make it into my hands. At the time of the purchase there was no book value assigned due to its recent release but my forking over the cost of a subway sandwich seemed like a good deal. Might even get this one graded in the future as it looks pretty clean.

I love it when I can predict to a T the exact grade that a card will get.

I love these mini chrome cards that happened to only come in factory sets. No pack busting here. You had to buy the factory set and hope for these black goodies which are only numbered to 25. I knew the day I received this from a great eBay transaction that I would send it in for grading. I could tell it was a tad off centered and I knew it would get a 9 grade for that but from my examinations I expected the other 3 sub grades to come out as 9.5's. Well the results are in and they came out exactly to what I thought they would. Centering indeed earned a 9 but thankfully the other ones came out to 9.5 and in the end I now have another gem mint card of Dodger super prospect Corey Seager.

I have had great luck with Corey when it comes to BGS and I hope it continues in the future.

Card(s) of the Day - 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini : Corey Seager Base Black Refractor Parallel ( 20 / 25 ) and Some Other Thrown In Friends

Bowman Chrome came out with a very late addition for a 2013 issue. These cards were released in 2014 but as a 2013 factory set. They are not sold in packs. I love me some minis so to acquire these I had to wait for people to buy their factory sets and then crack them open and sell them online. Same parallels exist as their bigger brothers ( blue, black etc ). With a few Dodgers in the set I had to see what I could get my hands on first.

I think I ended up with a great deal on this card. A seller had this in an auction with 3 other black refractors from the same set but didn't really describe Corey in the auction. Comparing other cards from the same set and what they have been selling for I would think it is safe assume that book value on this card alone will probably come in at the very minimum of $35 if not higher. I paid a click over $10 and that included 3 other refractors. Great way to start the mini project of 2013 Bowman Chrome.

** Edit - Card has a $50 book value assigned to. An even better deal.
