Card of the Day - 2013 Allen and Ginter : Don Sutton Mini Frame Autograph Red Ink Variant (39/66)

Right card at the right time.

I just love these red ink variants from the Allen Ginter brand as luckily I have acquired a couple since I jumped back into card collecting. These always have a low number as my Trout one is numbered to 31 and the Hamilton and Braun ones are numbered to 10. Well I always knew this card existed but I wasn't going to spend an arm and a leg for it.

Since I sold Sutton's signed ball I guess this counts as a reacquired autograph even though I do have a Sutton Museum card from earlier last year. Due to the fact that there are only 66 copies of this card only so many pop up on eBay to bid on. I have lost the couple I have tried to win as book has the card valued at $50. A card I wanted but never intended to pay a lot for.

Two auctions prior to this card's auction closed at $49 and $40. An auction after this one closed at $33. I was in on all of them but each surpassed my price ceiling. One night before I was about to go to bed I searched for this card and it came up on a BIN auction. The cost? $15 delivered. Was it a mistake by the seller? Don't know, don't care. I clicked the button to lock in the price and sent him my payment using comic sales funds and had this beauty show up a week or so later.

It pays to just hit the search button at random times during the day or in this case night.

Player Appearance / Signing Recap - Don Sutton @ Harry's Dugout On Saturday November 8, 2014

This past Saturday Harry's Dugout welcomed in former Dodger and Hall of Fame member Don Sutton for an in store autograph appearance.

Even with baseball season officially over and even though I have an autograph card of Don I wanted to add a black ball to my collection considering Don is in the Hall of Fame that makes him worthy in my eyes to use a black ball. I also planned to meet twitter friend Austin aka buddha_hat for a trade we worked on during the week. More on that tomorrow.

I arrived at Harry's around 12:30 as Don was scheduled to sign for two hours for fans. I didn't think I needed to be there at thee very beginning considering the length of time he was going to be there. When I arrived there were about 10 people in line so it was perfect timing. Went inside to purchase my ticket and saw that Don was chatting with fans and taking pictures. Always nice to see the athletes conversing with fans and not just signing and moving onto the next autograph. Eddie the owner was busy so I didn't get a chance to talk to him too much but there will be a former Dodger appearing in January who just happens to be a former World Series Champion. Can't wait. Headed back outside to the line where I met up with Austin and completed our trade and within 5 minutes we were both back inside to get our autographs.

I did not bring a gold paint pen as Eddie informed me that they would be well stocked with them so I trusted it would not streak and I wasn't disappointed. I think it came out perfect. Another black ball for the collection. PSA was also present so I purchased their COA just in case I ever have to sell the ball. Hope not. After Don signed I asked if he wouldn't mind a picture with me and he happily obliged.

If you notice on his vest it shows his current employer the Braves. Too bad we couldn't have him slip on some Dodger gear. Probably would have gotten him in trouble. Ha Ha.

Another successful day at Harry's Dugout. Thank you again to Eddie and his crew for having Don in and thank you to Don for signing for the fans. I look forward to the next signing at Harry's.

Upcoming Player Appearance / Signing : Don Sutton @ Harry's Dugout on November 8, 2014

The 2014 baseball season will be over by the time Harry's Dugout hosts this in store signing but it will be worth attending as they will be welcoming in a former Dodger great and Hall of Fame member, Don Sutton.

Don played 15+ years for the Dodgers that spanned over 3 separate decades. He is also a member of the 300 win club.

Due to Don's stature prices are a bit higher than normal for a Harry's Dugout event but I personally think its worth it considering who it is. Prices are above on the flyer and below like usual. If you have any questions feel free to contact the store.

Card of the Day - 2013 Topps Update : Don Sutton 1977 All Star Game Commemorative Patch Card

Acquired a different type of patch card the other day. While I have picked up patch cards of Dodger players depicted in their rookie cards this is the first one that I won with a specific game patch. I don't see many Dodgers in cards like these but when the Topps update set came out I saw that Don had a card in it with this patch and thought it would add a nice variety to my collection. Not too much demand for the card and even though the book has its value listed at $10 I was able to pick it up for a mere $3. Received the card a couple weeks later and it is a thick one. Love the look of it and its always nice to add a card of a past Dodger as my collection is lacking in that area.

Card of the Day - 2013 Topps Museum : Don Sutton Autograph ( 208 / 399 )

Just started looking at this year's Topps Museum set and I'm working on a few subsets and variants but the main draw for most sets will always be the autographs. This year's set has a few and this is the first one that I have been able to acquire.

Don Sutton had a hall of fame career with most of his major accomplishments being with the Dodgers. Didn't expect to seem him in this year's set due to him not being the most popular of old Dodgers but there he was and I wanted to get a copy of the card. Off to eBay which is the norm and while there many auctions I had a set price that I was willing to pay and I eventually won this card for just a tad under $7. Not too shabby. Even though it doesn't matter to me the card is also numbered 208 out of 399. Nice clean autograph of a Dodger great.
