Card of the Day - 2015 Topps : Mike Trout Base Silver Frame Parallel (2/20)

There are only 20 copies per player (card) for these silver frame parallels and even though I had already picked up Kershaw and Greinke I knew that Trout would be the hardest to acquire and probably the priciest on my wish list. Just like the Topps Chrome black parallel I just acquired I expected it might be a long while till I got my hands on this card, Surprisingly and thankfully that was not the case.

From my calculation this was the 3rd or 4th Trout card to show up on the bay and the same day this auction was to end there happened to be another copy also up on the bay to purchase. Obviously both were on my watch list. This one was scheduled to end first with the other ending about 3 hours later. I hoped that would work to my advantage that two were available and maybe I could score a deal. Boy did I ever as I think people were asleep at the wheel or just assumed both copies would have to be won in a bidding war.

The high bid for this copy was about $30 less than what the previous 2 or 3 had sold for and I assumed it would at least get somewhat close to that amount. I guessed wrong as when I put my bid in with a few seconds left it raised the price only a couple of dollars. SCORE !!. Hours later the other copy went for $32 more. Don't know why everybody stayed away from this card but I am glad they did. Card came in with no issues and like most Trout cards it is ear marked for BGS for grading.

  1. nice - are you working on a rainbow Trout? Or did you have a list of players you were looking to get the Framed parallels for?

I'm trying to finish the rainbow for Kennys Vargas - just need the /10 Acetate and the Snow Camo cards to do it (I guess the printing plates as well, but that's just wishful thinking...)

No, no rainbow for me. I just wanted the Dodgers and Trout in frame form. I stopped doing rainbows (other than BC rookies for Urias and Seager) and just stick to black and blue chrome parallels and these beauties. Good luck on your project

  2. Those are unique cards. You have to think the grades should be really good since they have a build in silver framed protector. Awesome card!
